Cannabis at Turtle Bay

Published on November 20, 2018 by David Wylie

Lake Country is in the race to be the Okanagan’s first pot spot.

Lake Country Director of Community Development Mark Koch confirmed to the oz. that the district has received a provincial referral in Lake Country.

The location is for Turtle Bay crossing — a fast-growing strip mall midway between Kelowna and Vernon.

Koch said the district’s internal process will likely take a few months before it comes to council. It requires a variance because it’s too close to a daycare, contrary to the city’s cannabis laws. The daycare is not permanent.

We suggest that if the district were to expedite that process and bring it to council asap, it could earn a regional milestone — first to retail pot.

Sounds like an opportunity to us.

Could this be the site of the Okanagan’s first private cannabis store? Compass Cannabis Clinic is there already in the top right corner, perfectly located.

We talked with the company that plans to open up shop here. That interview is coming soon.

Our Nov. 21 newsletter has a rundown of where all Okanagan communities are in the process.
